- The Shop
Chef-owners Mac and June started off with an online pâtisserie specializing in gourmet cheesecakes and chocolate cakes in March 2004. They expanded to a takeaway kiosk concept in 2010 and an all-day dining menu with an extensive beverage selection and widely-acclaimed desserts and pastries at the same year.
We were invited to their branch at i12 Katong for the new collection patisserie for 2012/13.
- The Food
Nicely display cakes and macarons for our photo taking.
Raspberry Lemon Cheesecake
Creamy baked cheese filling dotted with fresh lemon zest on a fragrant biscuit crust, topped with Belgian 70% fruit content raspberry compote.
I think the lemon cheesecake on the bed of buttery cookie crumbs was goodness. A tad tangy and not overly rich.
Carachoc
Crunchy praline feuilletine, fluffy dark chocolate genoise, caramel chocolate mousse, salted caramel bavarois, 56% bitterwseet chocolate mousse studded with Fleur de Sel from France, chocolate velvet.
The top layer is a tad salty but unnoticeable unless you only scoop the top part to eat. I love the crunchy bites of praline feuilletine and the layers of rich fluffy mousse. The combination was soooooo yummy. My favourite!
Nutella Cheesecake
Creamy baked cheese filling combined with Nutella & hazelnut praline on OREO biscuit crust.
The not too sweet cheesecake was too rich and lack of nutella fragrant. More hazelnut bites will be good too.
Apple Crumble Cheesecake
Creamy baked cheese on a fragrant biscuit crust, topped with slow-roasted granny smith caramel apples & almond crumble & califoornia walnuts, baked to perfection.
Generous chunky apple, however the atop crumb was a little too moist. This was the favourite of most people.
We understand from Mac that all their cheesecake are slow bake in waterbath to achieve the creamy and smoothness texture.
Their cheesecake are rich and thick that if won't fall apart when cut.
Singapore's first ever "alcoholic macarons" collection in 5 stunning flavours, using premium spirits and award-wining single plantation chocolate couvertures from France.
Alcoholic Macarons
Left: Mocha Kahlua - 46% semi sweet chocolate ganache infused with Kahlua liquer & Arabica espresso beans, sandwiched in fragrant ochre almond shells.
Nice fragrant of coffee and the liquor was mild. The ratio of coffee, chocolate and liquor was well balance. This was my favourite.
Right Orange Cognac - 41% milk chocolate ganache infused with Cognac & Valencia orange, sandwiched in fragrant orange almond shells dusted with edible bronze powder.
Refreshing citrus to complement the potent kick of cognac. A tad sweet in the beginning, and bitter after taste. This was the favourite of most.
Aged Rum Vanille
Swiss white chocolate ganache infused with aged dark rum & tahitian vanilla beans, sandwiched in fragrant beige almond shells dusted with cocoa powder.
Mild fragrant of rum and semi sweet.
Chocolate Whisky
46% semi-sweet chocolate ganache infused with aged scotch whisky, sandwiched in fragrant chocolate almond shells dusted with edible gold powder.
This has the strongest liquor taste among all the macarons we had tried. The 46% chocolate and whisky gives extra solid & rich flavor.
Mac also shared with us that alcoholic macarons are not to mix over 55% chocolate otherwise the chocolate will be over empowering.
Thank you Obolo for having us and the free gift.
- My Opinion
If you are a cheesecake lover, you'll be delighted with their cheesecake rich and creamy taste sensation.
The shell of macaron is more sweet, therefore Obolo are not stingy with the filling to make the overall less sweet compare to most macarons in the market.
