The region's largest photo competition - Canon PhotoMarathon has kick off for the 11th consecutive year on 6th July 2013.
We are one of the many who join the photo competition that challenges participants to create photographic masterpieces in line with assigned themes - under time pressure. This is the FIRST time we joined such event, together with Hazel of Aimakan, we stretch our creativity and endurance in this full-day event.
There will be two winners in every participating country to win an unforgettable 8-day photo clinic to Japan hosted by professional photographer Triston Yeo. But of course we are not targeting to win, we just want to experience and have fun!
Since it was our FIRST time, we are a tad kaisu (Hokkien dialect - afraid of losing). We arrived at Suntec Convention Hall at 6.45am and there was already at least 80 people in the queue!! I guess we share the same thinking; be early to avoid the crowd and collect the goody bag (only for first 200 contestant)!
We carry a big bag with tripod and ended up using only one lens for all the photoshoot!! Overly prepared ourselves as we didn't know what to expect.
First theme was TRADITION
We have a lot in mind, India temple, Chinese confection shop, perhaps a newly wed if we come across any, Prata making in process etc. I wanted a shoot of face threading or barber shop but never walk pass any!! Can you believe it? Then we saw so many photographers everywhere we go... Ended up I submitted this photo for the theme.
Tradition can be the handing down of statements, beliefs, legends, customs etc... Dream catchers are one of the traditions of Native Americans. It's intended to protect the sleeping individual from negative dreams, while letting positive dreams through. Having the left blurrish for a dreamy effect.
Second theme was COMMUNICATE
The picture says it all.
The last theme was INSTANT
We have about an hour to think out of the box as we were caught up in another event (haiz, sorry Hazel for dragging you down). So, I came up with this... Instant is an infinitesimal or very short space of time, a particular moment...
It is all about creativeness and has nothing to do with any lens! Carry light and think out of the box! I will do better next year!
Definitely had an awesome time with Hazel and thanks babe for asking me to sign up with you!
